1980 saw the launch of the Mini City and in the following year 69,986 Minis were sold. 
In 1984 Mini celebrated its 25th birthday.
Madonna launched herself more controversially with her first single in 1985,
‘Like A Virgin’.
1987 saw Van Gogh’s sunflower sold for a whopping £24 million.
Sir Alec Issigonis passed away in 1988 leaving behind one of the world’s most popular small cars.
A packed Silverstone played host in 1989 to Mini’s 30th birthday celebration. 
This year also saw the Berlin wall come down.
